At Pakenham Springs, the school mission states that students are being developed into ‘responsible and informed members of the local and global community’. To do this, Pakenham Springs recognises that many important skills relating to persistence, team work, goal setting and resilience need to be taught and practised.

This year, Pakenham Springs held their first ever Senior Student Conference for Year 6 students on their second day of school. A range of guest speakers presented to the students, holding interactive workshops throughout the day.

Cardinia Shire Youth Services showed students the vast number of services available to young people in their community. Aligned Leisure held a workshop on the attributes of successful leaders and using teamwork to achieve a common goal. DELTAR Motivation led the students through the process of breaking down big goals into smaller, more achievable components. The highlight for many was ex-NBL basketballer Mike Spears who engaged students with his stories about determination, persistence and having high expectations of themselves and others.

A sausage sizzle and staff vs students basketball game topped off an action packed, fun filled day. Reflections from the students were insightful and really showed that they knew how to apply their new knowledge to help them have a successful year at Pakenham Springs.
